KARA rejects Big Bang, chooses SHINee instead

Not quite rejection, but KARA will be performing with SHINee on the December 20th episode of MBC Music Core Christmas Special. KARA and SHINee will perform the christmas jingles "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Silent Night." This was confirmed on MBC's website. I know many of you were excited about KARA Bang, but there has been no confirmation on that particular performance, just rumors.

SNSD'S COMEBACK ON JANUARY

Girls' Generation / SNSD has finally released a date for their long awaited return. The 9 girl group will officially make their comeback on January 9th's Music Bank. On January 2, SNSD will first tease us all by releasing a short video teaser. SNSD will be filming the new MV today and tomorrow.

SNSD's album should be released on or near the January 9th date (no word on this yet)... but don't get too excited. The album isn't going to be a full album, instead they're going the ever popular lazy style mini-album route. So fans shouldn't expect many new songs. As far as the concept, they'll still be sticking with the cutesy theme.

On Tablo's "Dream Radio Show," The Wonder Girl's performed "StickWitU," originally sung by another talentless (except for Nicole Sherzinger) girl group, The Pussycat Dolls.

Honestly, they all sounded bad (except Sun Ye and Ye Eun) but Sohee was the final nail in the coffin. Even Yoobin, who is the rapper of the group, sounded better than her!

Our featured artist this week is the fast rising new boy band F.T Island. F.T. Island, short for “Five Treasure Island,” is a new group made up of 5 young, fresh-faced teenage members. Although the group debuted less than two months ago, they have already gained fans at home and abroad. “Cheerful Sensibility,” their first album released on June 8, is a collection of rock ballads and pop-rock tracks. The first single "Painful Love", written by Vibe's Ryu Jae Hyun, took fans by storm, spending 3 weeks on top of the music chart. Their album is doing equally well on the sales chart, having spent many weeks in the top 5.

Before their album release, F.T Island's first public appearance was back in March 2007 on a reality TV program on M.Net. The theme of the show was "Wanna be your boyfriend" by Internet voting. Within 10 minutes, more than 100 girls posted their pictures on the designated website because they all want to be F.T Island's girlfriends. That show created a lot of buzz for this new group. That's one of the reasons why they have become so popular upon their debut.

They are one of the most successful debuting acts in recent memory. Unlike many other boy bands, F.T Island actually play their own instruments so they are really a band. Perhaps that is one reason many people like them. They are unique and it is very hard to compare them to any previously successful boy bands. With their well rounded talents, F.T Island can potentially become one of the best boy bands that Korea ever has.

Debut

F.T. Island's first album was scheduled to be released commercially in May 2007.[2] However, instead of releasing the album as planned, all of the members appeared on a television program called “Dugeun Dugeun Yeochinmandeulgi” (Korean: 두근두근 여친만들기) on the Korean television channel MNet. The program title is officially translated by MNet as "Wanna Be My Girlfriend?" although "두근두근" refers to the sound a heart makes.[3] The band also performed on stage live at Rolling Hall and held their first official showcase at Live House Melon-AX, Gwangjang-dong in Seoul on May 27, 2007.[4] On June 7, 2007 F.T. Island performed their debut song on the music television program M!Countdown.[5]Not only this but also they amazed people by winning their first best song award on M!Countdown by beating top artists such as Dynamic Duo and Fly To The Sky in just 2 weeks after debuting.

Cheerful Sensibility

Their first album Cheerful Sensibility combined 13 songs that can be divided into 2 parts: “Emotional Chapter” and “FT Island Chapter” respectively according to the style of the song in the album. For the “Emotional Chapter”, the genre is rock ballad oriented which produced by the composers who work for many songs of famous Korean singer such as SG Wannabe. The other part, “FT Island Chapter”, tend to be the upbeat pop-rock oriented style, which was produced by the Japanese famous composers participating with the Japanese band, SMAP. The album sold 79,786 copies in 2007, making it the sixth best-selling album of the year.

2008: Japanese Debut

F.T. Island's Japanese debut album, entitled Prologue of FT Island, was released on 7th June 2008, with the first single released being "Soyogi". The album consists of 8 songs, 2 of which are newer versions of the original songs "FT Island" and "Primadonna". The last track, "Always Be Mine", is an English version of "First Kiss". However, the lyrics are not translated, but completely original. [8] A music video has been released for "Soyogi" and "Friendship".

Wonderbang is back for New Year’s Eve

Due to the excessive requests and demand from netizens, the two top idol groups Wonder Girls and Big Bang are having a special stage performance December 31st on MBC's Gayo Dejun. Many people fell in love with "wonderbang" after their collaboration last year of "tell me" and "lies" and want to hear more. Other artists to attend this event are Lee Hyori, Son Dambi, Kim Jong Kook.
